Rebuffed by both the state and the courts in its efforts to get a hospital tower built in Clarkston, McLaren Health Care has made a last-ditch effort to get what it wants by going to powerful members of the Michigan Senate.
Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville, R-Monroe, introduced Senate Bill 1073 on Sept. 16, and the Senate Government Operations Committee held a hearing just a week later. The room was packed with opponents, however, and the committee didn’t vote.
But there are growing fears that McLaren supporters in the Legislature will push the bill through – no matter what. McLaren desperately wants its new hospital in affluent northern Oakland County.
