Chuck Stokes sits down with Truscott Rossman’s “masters of messaging”

Truscott Rossman President John Truscott and Senior Vice President Shaun Wilson had the opportunity to sit down with longtime Detroit news icon Chuck Stokes to discuss the City, current events and political happenings on his show “Spotlight in the News”.

The three briefly discussed TR’s rapid expansion in Detroit and Grand Rapids, including a shout out to Tim Dye, TR’s VP of West Michigan who used to work with Stokes at WXYZ, the trio delved right into this summer’s hot topic:

Road funding

The legislature has “let the stew cook,” said Truscott, who noted that lawmakers needed to head back to the drawing board and come back with a new plan.

Next up – the D!

“You guys are known as the masters of messaging,” remarked Stokes. “What’s the message for the city of Detroit going forward?”

Truscott and Wilson were both excited about the direction of the city and replied simply “keep it up!”

And that positive energy starts at the top. “The mayor has an excellent relationship with the current city council,” Truscott said.

Take programs like Motor City Match or the recent 0% Home Repair Loan Program – these initiatives are helping to ensure Detroit’s rebound continues.

Wilson noted that in addition to Detroit’s comeback, it is great to see the business community leading the charge to reunite west and east Michigan.

On Trump and the GOP

Stokes couldn’t help but ask Truscott, a longtime Republican, his thoughts on the upcoming 2016 election – and that meant addressing the elephant in the room, Donald Trump.

“[Trump] defies all political convention as far as how this goes,” said Truscott. “Whatever he says seems to make him more popular.”

Wilson simply remarked that the Democrats should grab their popcorn and watch the show.
