Veteran Detroit News reporter joins The Rossman Group

LANSING, Mich. – Charlie Cain, an award-winning Michigan journalist, has joined The Rossman Group, a full-service public relations firm in Lansing.

“We’re happy to have a respected journalist such as Charlie come on board,” said Kelly Rossman-McKinney, CEO and founder of the firm. “Charlie, with his extensive experience, will serve as our senior writer and help coach younger staffers on writing technique.”

Cain spent 34 years at The Detroit News, where he began his professional career immediately after graduating from Michigan State University. He was the newspaper’s Lansing Bureau chief for 18 years and has more than 30 years’ experience covering state government and politics.

Also joining the firm is Carolynne Bohnhoff, of DeWitt, who will be the executive assistant to the CEO. Bohnhoff most recently worked as a human resources assistant for the Demmer Corp. in Lansing. Prior to that she was a mortgage loan officer for Countrywide Home Loans and Charter One Bank.

“I love working in a fast-paced environment, so The Rossman Group is a great fit for me,” Bohnhoff said.

Cain, a Lansing resident and Detroit native, said he was “looking forward to a new chapter in life.”

“The Rossman Group, with its deep, talented bench and well-deserved reputation for excellence, offers me a unique opportunity to learn about public relations from the other side of the notebook,” he said.

The Rossman Group specializes in issues management, crisis communication, litigation communication, media relations, community relations and ballot initiatives.

Last year, for the third time in a row, The Rossman Group was named the “Most Effective Public Affairs Firm” by capital insiders in the MIRS/EPIC-MRA survey. The other surveys were conducted in 2004 and 2007.
