Three major cities, one major calendar

Truscott Rossman’s 2016 calendar features Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing satire

LANSING – Truscott Rossman’s 2016 “Michigan Muscle”-themed calendar, featuring some of the state’s juiciest political stories, hit the streets today, going out to more than 5,000 recipients around the world!

This year’s calendar highlights personalities and events from the three Michigan cities that are home to Truscott Rossman offices. It is being issued as the firm caps five years of continuous growth, since its founding in 2011. The firm’s client base has grown by nearly 130 percent in that time.

The calendar features Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalyn Bliss and Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, alongside Michigan’s historic muscle cars, the Chevy Camaro and Ford Mustang. Illustrations of iconic buildings in Grand Rapids, Detroit and Lansing anchor the calendar, providing the scene for entertaining twists to each story line.

Sherry Olsen of Hopkins, Mich. won the annual quote contest, supplying a comment for the now-infamous scandal involving former state Reps. Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat. The illustration has Courser telling Gamrat, “Oh, you meant DON’T tread on me,” a reference to the American Revolution-era motto embraced by the Tea Party, to which they both belong. More than 40 entries were submitted through Truscott Rossman’s social media outlets and were judged anonymously by the firm’s staff.

“This year we changed it up, with John Auchter, former editorial cartoonist for MLive, illustrating this year’s calendar and we love the results,” said CEO and Principal Kelly Rossman-McKinney. “John nailed the perfect balance between spunk, satire and sass that our calendar promises every year.”

With the presidential elections fast approaching and the primaries underway, this year’s calendar also includes GOP primary candidate Donald Trump and Democratic primary candidate Bernie Sanders.

The calendar also pays homage to one of college football’s most unforgettable moments: Michigan State University’s win over arch-rival University of Michigan, with MSU Coach Mark Dantonio and U-M Coach Jim Harbaugh.

Other Michigan celebrities appearing in the calendar include Detroit developers Dan Gilbert and Mike Ilitch playing a friendly game of Monopoly, and Grand Rapids businessmen and philanthropists Doug DeVos and Steve Van Andel discussing their next charitable donation.

“Our team looks forward to creating this calendar every year,” said Truscott Rossman President and Principal John Truscott. “We love to look over it and laugh about the crazy stories from the previous year. This past year was rich with content, so it was tough to narrow it down.”
