Connecting Women Power in Detroit

The Detroit skyline couldn’t have been more beautiful and the company couldn’t have been more fabulous on the rooftop of The Music Hall in downtown Detroit for Truscott Rossman’s Detroit “Wonderful Women” debut last night.
Truscott Rossman held its first “Wonderful Women” event in Grand Rapids three years ago to thank the amazing women who helped us open doors, meet potential clients and made us feel welcome when we opened our West Michigan office.TRWonderfulWomen-41-2

It was time to extend the same appreciation to the women of Southeast Michigan, who have supported our Detroit office. So we pulled together powerful women who are enjoying the best years of their careers, as well as young women fresh out of college.

We could drop names, but every woman attending was powerful and connected in her own right. We shared cocktails, sushi, cupcakes in a jar (really!), along with stories, advice, more cocktails and hors d’oeuvres – and the adrenalin rush of making connections in a city on its way up.

Truscott Rossman CEO Kelly Rossman-McKinney, a wonderful woman in her own right, hosted the celebration with TR President John Truscott and Detroit Vice President Shaun Wilson. Yup, we brought along a few men to help jazz up the place.

The best part (in addition to meeting new friends and reconnecting with others) was the buzz of excitement among TR’s guests – especially when we announced that all the food vendors were women-owned businesses that had won Detroit’s Motor City Match competition.

It’s a great reflection of how women are gaining traction in business. In fact, only three states outpaced Michigan’s 56.9 percent growth in woman-owned businesses between 2007 and 2016, a recent study by American Express OPEN found. And in Metro Detroit, woman-owned businesses grew – hang on – more than 121 percent since 2007, second-highest among major U. S. cities.

We are proud to be part of Detroit’s economy and “Wonderful Women” is designed to build on the power of women. We’ll be back next year to pump up the power even more!
