Traditional Feeding Frenzy Keeps Policymakers Focused on Legislation

LANSING, Mich. – Truscott Rossman kept Michigan’s policymakers, staffers and lobbyists well fueled during a lengthy lame-duck session. As of 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 15, the TR team logged more than 31 hours over the three-day marathon session, making for the longest Feeding Frenzy since the bipartisan firm began the effort nearly 20 years ago.

“Nothing says ‘lame duck’ like our Feeding Frenzy – inarguably the most popular event during the last hours of session,” said Kelly Rossman-McKinney, CEO of Truscott Rossman. “This was one of the longest tours of Frenzy duty we’ve ever had – including an all-nighter.  From our perspective, we do this not just because it’s nice but because it’s necessary for those poor folks who are still working.”

Truscott Rossman truly appreciates its long-standing coffee sponsor, McAlvey & Associates and Biggby on Ottawa, for their generous provision of more than 900 cups of regular and 100 cups of decaffeinated coffee this week. Other food and beverage items consumed by policymakers, reporters, legislators, lobbyists and staff were:

  • 1680 Slim Jims
  • 300 candy suckers
  • 180 assorted doughnuts
  • 228 cookies
  • 84 packages of cookies
  • 100 pounds of oranges
  • 45 pounds of bananas
  • 114 pounds of apples
  • 530 bags of assorted chips
  • 180 bags of trail mix
  • 180 bags of veggie straws
  • 205 assorted granola bars
  • 288 bags of chocolate M&M’s
  • 288 bags of peanut M&M’s
  • 150 Rice Krispies treats
  • 360 bags of fruit snacks
  • 1096 assorted king-size candy bars
  • 240 assorted fun-size candy bars
  • 3200 sticks of gum
  • 288 bottles of assorted juices
  • 280 cans of Coke
  • 385 cans of diet Coke
  • 864 bottles of water

“Hosting the year-end Feeding Frenzy is our way of helping to make the lame-duck experience as bearable as possible for everyone involved,” said John Truscott, President of Truscott Rossman. “By providing snacks and beverages, policymakers can focus on the work to be done, instead of growling stomachs. We are pleased to play a small part in keeping the engine of government humming.”
