John Truscott

Named the most effective PR pro in 2019, 2021 and 2023 in the MIRS/EPIC-MRA survey of Michigan Capitol insiders, John cut his teeth in the public sector. 

He served as director of communications and press secretary to Michigan Governor John Engler, eventually becoming the longest-serving press secretary to any governor before starting his own PR firm. In 2011, he partnered with Kelly Rossman-McKinney, merging his firm with the Rossman Group to create Truscott Rossman, Michigan’s largest and most respected bi-partisan public relations firm.

Over the past 20+ years, he has advised elected and appointed officials in state and local governments, counseled C-suite executives at Fortune 500 companies, and helped organize impactful grassroots and grasstops coalitions and campaigns across Michigan.

An active volunteer and community leader, John serves on the Board of Directors of the Grand Rapids Economic Club, the Michigan Chamber of Commerce Board and is an At-Large Board Member of the Ottawa County Ground Water Board. In the George W. Bush administration, he chaired the Emergency Public Information Committee by appointment of the Secretary of Health and Human Services. He previously served on the Michigan Community Service Commission, as Governing Board Chair of Ele’s Place for grieving children and volunteered as a trainer on communications and media issues with members of Parliament in Ukraine.

He is a proud Michigan State University alumnus, earning a bachelor’s degree in communication and a major in political science. He is a Grand Haven resident.
