Truscott Rossman Honored at 2011 PACE Awards

LANSING, Mich. — Truscott Rossman was honored with four of Mid-Michigan’s highest public relations honors today at the 2011 annual PACE Awards luncheon.  Michigan’s premier bipartisan strategic communications firm received two Pinnacle Awards in the Creative Tactics and Video Program categories for its work with the Michigan Infrastructure & Transportation Association (MITA), and also landed honors for its entries in the Special Purpose Publications and Public Affairs categories.

The full list of awards for Truscott Rossman included:

  • Pinnacle Award, Creative Tactics: “Pure Pothole Devils: Special Legislative Delivery”
  • Pinnacle Award, Video Program: “Pure Pothole Hell”
  • Award of Excellence, Special Purpose Publications: “2011 Truscott Rossman Calendar”
  • Award of Achievement, Public Affairs: “Knapp’s Center Redevelopment, The Eyde Company”

“Michigan’s hellish roads have brought out that little devil in all of us at one point or another, so creatively it made sense,” Kelly Rossman-McKinney, CEO and principal of Truscott Rossman, said of the Pure Pothole Devils who made special deliveries of care packages from down under, including the Pure Hell DVD, to legislators. “We effectively packaged it in a way that would focus their attention on a serious issue in a lighthearted way.”

The PACE Awards are presented each year by the Central Michigan Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).  Awards are given to public relations practitioners who successfully address contemporary issues with exemplary skill, creativity and resourcefulness.

“Once again, we are thrilled to have been recognized as having the top communications tactics in the capital region,” said Keith Ledbetter, director of legislative affairs for the Michigan Infrastructure & Transportation Association, and a long-time client. “Transportation funding remains a high-priority topic of conversation with lawmakers, the public and the media, thanks to the creativity and energy of the MITA and Truscott Rossman teams.”

“Our team has shown once again that we know how to make a message stick or an event soar,” said John Truscott, president and principal of Truscott Rossman. “We are thrilled to have been recognized by our PRSA peers for our outstanding work in this competitive industry.”

This year’s event was judged by an out-of-state PRSA chapter, with special expertise in the award categories.

Truscott Rossman’s campaign to secure approval for tax incentives for the redevelopment of the historic Knapp’s Centre building was recognized as a finalist for the Best in Show award for best overall communications campaign. The firm’s communications team helped building developers The Eyde Company secure unanimous approval at Lansing’s city council for the development incentives.

“We are proud to be part of an award-winning strategy to restore an important landmark in Lansing,” said Nick Eyde, of The Eyde Company. “We are dedicated to the revitalization of the community and honored to be recognized for a campaign that brought the community together to save a piece of Lansing’s history.”

More than 300 companies have been recognized by the PACE Awards for excellence in the past two decades. The staff at Truscott Rossman has been honored with more than 100 of those awards since 1990.
