Grand Rapids: Cool City, Hot Art

Calder in Grand RapidsIt is an exciting time to be a Grand Rapidian. In the past couple of weeks, the Grand Rapids Lip Dub has received national TV coverage, Newsweek  Magazine finally responds to our cries that Grand Rapids is NOT a dying city and Truscott Rossman announced that it is growing our Grand Rapids office!

I thought it would only be fitting for my blogs to be about Grand Rapids, and share the many reasons why I love this city and you should too!

Today is the first day of Festival of the Arts, therefore I think it is only fitting to have “Art” be today’s theme of why I love Grand Rapids.

Art Prize.  If you don’t know what Art Prize is, stop what you are doing and Google it now! Art Prize is going into its 3rd year, and now one of the most frequently asked questions you hear, is “When is Art Prize?”  Mark your calendars, it’s September 21st – October 9th.

Festival of the Arts.  2011 marks the 42nd Festival of the Arts, making it one of the longest running festivals in the state. Festival of the Arts is a community celebration in downtown Grand Rapids that features art, entertainment, food and activities for the entire family.

Art of the Table. This is one of my favorite locally owned stores in Grand Rapids. They are located at 606 Wealthy Street.  It is a specialty food, beverage and table top store.

Grand Rapids Art Museum. The GRAM is the first LEED Certified Art Museum in the world!  Check out their “Friday Night Conversations.” The galleries are open late, there is live music and a cash bar in the lobby.

Welcome to Grand Rapids Truscott Rossman!  We really are a “Cool City, with Hot Art”.
