Why do my thumbs hurt?

Why do my thumbs hurt? Wait, my arm is tingling and numb. Ouch, I have a knot in my chest.

Are these just symptoms of getting older? What’s up with this?

Well, I narrowed it down to texting. Then I did some research and found it’s very prevalent. My trainer said he’s seeing a lot of muscle pain and stiff joints because of texting.

The nerve from our thumbs runs up our arms and into our chest. So we’re susceptible to pain over most of our upper body.

Add that to the fact that we’re hunching our shoulders forward when we type or drive, and “it’s a pain.”

So I’ve found myself stretching all day – against an open door or wall. And I had a massage over the weekend to work out the kinks. It helped, but not completely.

So now I’m trying to text with my index fingers every now and then. Hasn’t proven to be a solution yet – and you know what it’s like when you hit send, but had the wrong words in your text, that just creates more problems.

So why not stop texting? Yeah, right – like that’s going to happen.

If anyone has a good solution – pass it along.  We know texting is here to stay – it just needs to be pain free.
