Rooted in Tradition, Thriving in Innovation: The Michigan Apples Brand Refresh

Michigan Apple Committee

The
Challenge

Since its establishment in 1939, the Michigan Apple Committee (MAC) has promoted marketing, communications, and consumer education for Michigan’s apple growers. To stand out in an increasingly competitive market, MAC recognized the need for a brand refresh and repositioning. The committee aimed to highlight the unique and exquisite flavors of Michigan apples, resulting from the state’s favorable climate and rich soil, nurtured by the Great Lakes.

The
Response

Truscott Rossman aligned closely with MAC’s vision, understanding the intrinsic value and brand equity built through the traditional red and green colors in the logo. We agreed on the importance of revitalizing the logo while retaining elements that paid homage to the Great Lakes.

Truscott Rossman rejuvenated the logo by updating the previously hard-to-decipher script font with a contemporary design and refined the logo mark to subtly incorporate elements reminiscent of Lake Michigan’s waves. The firm also introduced catchy taglines: “Great Lakes. Great Flavors,” and “Where Apples Love to Grow,” to reinforce the brand’s unique selling proposition.

Furthermore, Truscott Rossman played a pivotal role in updating various marketing materials to ensure they conveyed the refreshed brand message effectively. This involved creating infographics and custom seasonal photography that vividly narrated the story of Michigan Apples.

Truscott Rossman continues to collaborate with MAC, supporting a wide array of marketing initiatives, educational resources, and trade show materials. MAC takes pride in Michigan’s status as the nation’s third-largest apple producer, and Truscott Rossman is honored to contribute to MAC’s endeavors to penetrate new markets and sustain its legacy of success.
